What is done during an eye checkup?
A proper history is taken, best spectacle corrected visual acuity is recorded, appropriate glasses are prescribed, ocular motility and balance check, IOP measurement, Slit lamp examination of the eye is done and examination of the posterior segment of the eye is done by a dilated fundus examination
How long does it take to get an eye exam?
Normally it takes about 30 to 45 minutes
How often do you need to get your eyes checked?
Every year would be the norm but there are conditions which require closer follow up as your ophthalmologist would recommend for you

What is included in a comprehensive eye exam?

Can an eye test detect diabetes?

Normally a complete eye exanination needs to be done as diabetes affects many parts of the eye but notably the retina
What can be expected after dilating of the eyes?
The dilating process with mydriatic drop entails applying topical mydriatic drops in the patient’s eyes evry 10 minutes. The procedure takes about half an hour normally during which the patient is required to sit with the eyes closed. Sometimes in older or diabetic patients it can take longer duartion. The patient will have difficulties in viewing mobile phones, computers and night driving for 3-4 hours. Driving in the day time is usually not hampered.
